Beatle Juice

В Англии продают соки Beatle Juice. Среди вкусов: Apple - McCartney, John - Lemon, George - Pearrison, Mango - Starr. Не лишено логики? Думаю, что в некотором роде... Жаль, что таких соков нет в гастрономе у моего дома... Надеюсь, что они без красителей и эмульгаторов.

Знаю, что это бельгийская группа 60-х годов, предпочитавшая играть фрик-бит, а вот как она называется... Надеюсь на вашу подсказку, друзья. Разумеется, нет и обложки миньона... Поэтому размещаю картинку, попавшую под руку... Мне этот файл принесли на флешке, где он назван "Belgian Group".

Freakbeat is the name used for rare, collectable, and obscure British Invasion records, particularly from 1966 and 1967.[1] Elements of the freakbeat sound include strong direct drum beats, loud and frenzied guitar riffs, and extreme effects such as fuzztone, flanging, distortion and compression or phasing on the vocal or drum tracks. Often used to describe the European counterpart to the psychedelic garage rock of American groups like The Seeds, The Thirteenth Floor Elevators, and The Standells, freakbeat is most often applied to music originating in the UK, although many artists on the European continent also contributed to the freakbeat style. Some of the best-known examples of the freakbeat genre include the British hits "Take a Heart" by The Sorrows, "Making Time" by The Creation, "Atmospheres" by Wimple Winch, and "I Can Hear the Grass Grow" by The Move. Much of the material collected on Rhino Records's 2001 box-set compilation Nuggets II: Original Artyfacts from the British Empire and Beyond, 1964-1969 can be classified as freakbeat.

The term "freakbeat" was invented (after the fact) in the 1980s by the music journalist Phil Smee, to retroactively describe a music style that has been described as a missing link between the early-to-mid-1960s mod R&B scene and the psychedelic rock and progressive rock genres that emerged in the late-1960s with bands such as Pink Floyd. Пока не знаю подробностей по поводу нового альбома, который собирается (и собирается ли?) выпустить Дэйв Мэттьюз и его группа. Но одну из новых песен группа уже представила на суд зрителей. Кроме того, есть ролик на ЮТьюбе, который позволяет получить хотя бы некоторое представление о настрое музыкантов.

Hilton Valentine "All in Your Head" (1969)

Hilton Valentine was born in 1943 in North Shields, Northumberland, started playing guitar in a skiffle band (The Heppers) moved on to a more rock'n'roll/R&B sound with The Wildcats and ended up the lead guitarist for the Animals, one of the finest & (as Valentine notes) most poorly managed bands of the British Invasion.

He left the Animals in 1966 when they became Eric Burdon & the Animals and, except for some supporting gigs (on the Keith Sheilds' single Hey Gyp & another single by Natasha Pyne) didn't record again until this 1969 solo release on Capitol/EMI. He then went on another long recording hiatus & didn't release another solo outing until It's Folk 'N' Skiffle recorded under the name Skiffledog, which you should definitely check out (you can listen to samples at the link I just gave). You can see his whole discography here.

Valentine is still performing today, as Skiffledog and along with Eric Burdon and his Web site has more info. You can see a recent performance on Youtube.

Hilton Valentine is a member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and deserving of many other accolades and honors (whether he's gotten or not). But then again, this record deserved to be a hit, so music, like life, ain't always fair.

The Pretty Things - Parachute (1970)

The Pretty Things are one of the most important British rock bands of the 60s and 70s that somehow never gained recognition in the States. They started as an R&B rock band much like the Rolling Stones and in '67 they took a turn towards psychedelia with the orchestrated album, Emotions. Then they went on to record the first rock opera ever, S.F. Sorrow, but the Who's Tommy would outshine it with much better sales. Founding member Dick Taylor would leave shortly after, apparantly disappointed with the lack of recognition it received. The band carried on and recorded Parachute with excellent results. The first six tracks have a striking similarity to the second side of Abbey Road, due to the use of seamless songs and layered vocal harmonies. This similarity is no surprise considering that Parachute was recorded in Abbey Road with the Beatles' engineer Norman Smith producing. The first half is the most immediately striking, but the second half has a great combination of raunchy blues and slower songs. According to allmusic.com, the album is a concept album about "a generation caught between the conflicting calls of (rural) peace, love, and boredom, and (urban) sophistication, sex, and squalor in a harsh world." I've only picked up on this concept in a couple tracks thus far, to be honest. The last six songs are bonus tracks, which are inferior to the album cuts, but good nonetheless.

Not exactly the place one would expect to find Gregg Allman on a Tuesday night, but that’s just where he and 450 of his SoCal fans gathered to pay tribute to the rock legend and his new autobiography, My Cross to Bear.Joined by co-author Alan Light, Allman entered to a standing ovation from the capacity crowd predominantly of aging Boomers that filled the historic Aero Theatre. In the 45-minute Q&A that followed Allman began the program detailing his life-changing sobriety, affirming himself ‘reborn,’ and then politely requested Light switch topics and ask about ‘happy things.’ Anecdotes ranging from his early stint in Hollywood to brother Duane’s discovery of slide guitar were met with applause.

The Rolling Stones to Celebrate 50th Anniversary with Free Exhibition in London

The Rolling Stones will celebrate their 50th anniversary with a free photographic exhibition at Somerset House in London, UK. Set to run from July 13 to August 27, the exhibition will document the last half-century of the band’s career since their debut performance on July 12, 1962 at the Marquee Club in London. Exhibits include over seventy prints ranging from reportage photography, live concert and studio session images, to contact sheets, negative strips and outtakes from every period of the band’s history. Visitors to the exhibition will have the opportunity to purchase limited edition prints, copies of the book and other merchandise. This exhibition will also coincide with the release of the book by the same name, published by Thames & Hudson.A statement posted to the band’s website reads:This is our story of fifty fantastic years. We started out as a blues band playing the clubs and more recently we’ve filled the largest stadiums in the world with the kind of show that none of us could have imagined all those years ago.- Mick, Keith, Charlie & Ronnie.

Итак, уважаемые господа, прогрокеры Galahad, чьи вирши зачастую вызывали особую радость у историков, хотя и мы, свободные художники, тоже любили потягивать под них абсент, разразились новым опусом. Кстати, имейте в виду, что название своё музыканты заимствовали не из мифологии (помните рыцаря Галахада, сына Ланселота?), а из мира брендов. Есть такая фруктово-овощная компания "Galahad Produce", где, как утверждают, некоторое время вкалывал один из наших героев-прогрокеров. Причём в этом году это уже второй релиз... Штампують...

'Battle Scars' is the new studio album from established English progressive rock band Galahad just released on Avalon Records. The CD was recorded, engineered and mixed by Karl Groom (Threshold) at Thin Ice studios. 'Battle Scars', Galahad's seventh studio album, shows the band evolving from their well received and critically acclaimed 2007 album 'Empires Never Last'. 'Battle Scars' is the first of two new albums from Galahad scheduled for release this year.

'Battle Scars' contains a myriad of styles from rock and prog through to techno, ambient and dance sounds via classical arrangements. Throughout, the production is modern and pristine, incorporating powerful, direct guitar riffs, lush keyboard arrangements and occasional quieter passages of subtle beauty, melding together to create an often massively epic sound. "I guess the whole gamut are in there,” explains vocalist and founding member Stuart Nicholson about the album's variety of themes, "frustration, anger, disbelief, reflection, the acceptance of reality, fighting spirit against the odds, hope for the future, negativity, positivity and more besides.”

'Battle Scars' is Galahad music for the 21st Century: very much looking forward but also showing occasional and affectionate nods to the analogue past.

In recognition of the band's 25 year plus history, a new recording of their classic song "Sleepers” is included as a bonus track on the CD and download version. "I think the whole package works really well,” says Stuart, "the monochrome graphics and images with the odd splash of red here and various pieces of pertinent imagery match the atmosphere of the music perfectly.”

As always, the proof of the pudding is in the listening, as the band suggests: "Go on, give it a whirl, leave your preconceptions at the door and play it loud! We know it's our best album yet, and hope you agree.”

Galahad's 'Battle Scars' is available on CD, digital download and limited edition high quality 180gm vinyl LP in a gatefold sleeve.

In closing Stuart Nicholson had this to impart to Galahad's devoted fans of many years: "I hope you like what we have come up with, and if you know us well you'll realize that we try and make each album different from the previous one, but still include certain Galahad traits. Black Sabbath триумфально выступили в родном Бирмингеме, а противостояние группы с бывшим барабанщиком Биллом Уордом продолжается.

Участники классического состава, квартета Black Sabbath, эти пожилые люди, имеющие серьезные проблемы со здоровьем, продолжают испытывать друг друга на прочность. В начале музыканты договорились о воссоединении вчетвером: Оззи Осборн, Тони Айомми, Гизер Батлер и Билл Уорд. И даже записаться всем вместе — впервые за 33 года. Затем у гитариста Тони Айомми была обнаружена лимфома на ранней стадии, и концерты, в том числе российские, отложили на неопределенный срок. Затем барабанщик Билл Уорд (с больным сердцем) оказался несогласен с предложением выступать то ли бесплатно, то ли не на всех мероприятиях воссоединения. Если принять его сторону, то можно понять нежелание артиста разочаровывать поклонников лишь одним выступлением в составе группы.

Тем не менее, 19 мая 2012 г. в концертном зале «O2 Academy Birmingham» — на родине героев, состоялось первое выступление возрожденной группы. За барабанной установкой место Билла Уорда занимал 32-летний Томми Клуфетос, играющий с Оззи Осборном. Площадка «Birmingham Academy» с ее скромными для подобного шоу размерами (вместимостью 3 859 зрителей, вроде петербургского БКЗ «Октябрьский»), была предсказуемо переполнена. Публика с самой первой песни скандировала имя Тони Айомми. Все присутствующие были приятно ошеломлены увиденным. Гизер Батлер впоследствии отметил, что поддержка поклонников стала для Тони Айомми лучшим лекарством.

Билл Уорд не преминул откликнуться на это событие и напомнить о своем неучастии в реюнионе. Пожелав всем бывшим коллегам и друзьям здоровья и счастья, он, тем не менее, потребовал убрать свои изображения с официального сайта Black Sabbath. Соответствующая просьба поступила менеджменту группы от его адвоката — чтобы не вводить в заблуждение зрителей будущих выступлений Black Sabbath на фестивалях «Download» в Лестершире 10 июня и «Lollapalooza» в Чикаго 3 августа сего года.

Удаление лица Билла Уорда в ряде мест на официальной странице вызвало появление предсказуемых комментариев от поклонников Black Sabbath. Они обвиняли администрацию в применении сталинского фотошопа с удалением неугодных. Ответом стала невозмутимая констатация Оззи Осборном того факта, что есть только один BLACK SABBATH — и это Айомми, Осборн, Батлер и Уорд.
