1971: A Golden Year of Rock Albums
I have yet to join the MP3 era. Sure, I've down-loaded some tunes over the last few years and even enjoyed uploading songs to make some "mixes" on CD. I even own a simple MP3 player and can see its advantages. I'm sure its size would be great when running, or its storage capacity convenient for those long commutes, but I've yet to use mine anyway. Maybe I'm just lazy about gadgets and using computers, but consequently I continue to build my compact disc collection and even still rely on a few cassette tapes I've yet to replace. I like to believe this is akin to those great vinyl collections (just not as cool) where I can still pull a copy of something from a shelf and read the liner notes, or simply gaze at the cover art while I listen to the "album." In this manner, I believe it's easier to think of music in an historical context. I suppose I'm a bit of a music geek, but I find it interesting to consider which year albums were originally released. And when perusing my collection, I'm repeatedly fascinated with the heavy number of releases between 1965 and 1975.
