Anthony Phillips & Andrew Skeet "Seventh Heaven" (2012)

Очередной студийный симфопроговый альбом (на двух дисках!) выпустил в сотрудничестве с Эндрью Скитом наш старый знакомый по Genesis, уважаемый маэстро Энтони Филлипс. Насколько нам известно, у Энтони вообще не бывает плохих альбомов, поэтому релиз интересен хотя бы для однократного прослушивания.

When many think of the music of Anthony Phillips, often they first remember his association with the early days of the band Genesis, even though it has been more than forty years since he left that band. After formal music training in the early 1970s, Ant did continue to collaborate with Mike Rutherford on The Geese and the Ghost and Smallcreep’s Day, in addition to Ant’s other solo works such as Wise After The Event and Sides in the mid to late 1970s. Ant has released about thirty albums to the general public, in addition to the many compilations of his extensive catalog.

The younger Andrew Skeet has worked as an arranger and orchestrator for George Michael, Suede, Unkle, Sinead O’Connor and Hybrid. Since 2004 Skeet has worked with Neil Hannon of The Divine Comedy on three albums as musical director, arranger, and playing piano as well as touring throughout Europe. Andrew Skeet also established the music production company Roxbury Music with Luke Gordon (former Howie B collaborator) and together their music has been featured in film, television and commercials: The Apprentice, Dispatches, and Banged Up Abroad. Skeet has also orchestrated and conducted scores for The Awakening and Upstairs Downstairs. The album The Greatest Video Game Music was produced in 2011 by Andrew Skeet along with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and has been one of the most successful classical releases in many years.

Änglagård "Viljans Öga" (2012)

Новый альбом шведской неопрогрессивной группы.

Under complex, eccentric rhythms and pitches, they spun out chilling, thrilling harmonies upon the edge, mainly with keyboard, guitar, and flute threads, that can blow us out into another dream. In my humble opinion, especially Anna's flute should not make us stay upon comfort but fling us out onto a hazardous cold crystal. Apparently by Jonas sharp-edged guitar sounds we cannot help weeping rather than uplift ourselves and spirit. And yes, the most comfortable and reliable are their deep / heavy / strict rhythms launched by Mattias' drums and Johan's bass.

All of the tracks in this album are 10 and more minutes long, and with frequent scene changes dynamically and dramatically, that can never be boring at all. Sometimes they throw breaking pitches like split-finger fastballs, sometimes stable heavy oscillations like big, splendid fireworks, and sometimes plaintive but beautiful melodies like flowery flavour of matured liquor. Sounds like that they'd approached this recording ready to take either a hard line or a moderate one as previously, and their aggressive playing has thrived basically on their tearful chord treatment, heard under riffs in the latter part of "Snårdom".

Consider it's meaningless to comment about each song indeed, but let me only say that they've never yielded to essence of pop or mainstream as above mentioned. Listen to their artistic symphony created with all instruments and techniques by them precisely, and we would get confused firstly and amazed / convinced finally ... that they should have done completely their original diplomatic strategy. Aside that every symphonic progressive rock freak could get fond of this stuff or not, we can mention that ÄNGLAGÅRD could construct their innovative ultimate music weapon named "Viljans Öga". Surpassed two albums upon their catalogue in this sense ... for me, not an extreme word, really. (progarchives)

В 2010 г. мы узнали о реюнионе команды. Теперь издан их концертник.

Alphataurus is one of those legendary RPI bands who are obscure in the annals of general progressive rock, but much appreciated by Italian prog fanatics who venture beyond the more well-known groups. Not much is known about the group from Milan who sprang on to the scene with a great album before vanishing in typical RPI fashion. A second album was partially recorded and later released by Mellow in the '90s as part of their archival projects. Our original site Bio summed them up like this:

"Expressive Heavy prog band from the classic early 70's Italian prog scene, very similar to MUSEO ROSENBACH and IL BALLETO DI BRONZO. Just like their contemporary 'sister' bands they mix very well the heavy parts with soft melodic passages, with exquisite contrasting strong voice. The keyboards are superb and their long thematic developments alone would merit an interest in their albums. They released two albums, the first one "Alphataurus" considered by many as a masterpiece of the 70's Italian scene. They are an unparallel heavy prog classic to my ears."

They did mix well the light and heavier sections and sometimes even a bluesy, jazzy, or spacey edge. I believe they probably had both English and Italian influences with the former being perhaps VDGG or even Deep Purple. I would say if you enjoy the heavier side of Italian, such as De De Lind, JET, or Museo Rosenbach, you will need to check out Alphataurus. Tragically the band split in 1974 while working on their second album, leaving it unfinished. It was released posthumously but was not even close to finished. Drummer Giorgio Santandrea went on to work briefly in Crystals, and Pietro Pellegrini collaborated with both Riccardo Zappa and PFM.

Locanda Delle Fate "The Missing Fireflies" (2012)

Locanda Delle Fate’s fairytale-like name stems from a rather unromantic place – a brothel in their home town of Asti, in north-western Italy (well-known to wine lovers for its fabulous sparkling dessert wine). Originally a seven-piece, the band got together in the early Seventies to play covers of the legendary English prog acts, then moved on to writing their own material. Their first demo attracted the attention of the high-profile record label Phonogram, and their debut album, Forse le Lucciole Non Si Amano Più was released in the summer of 1977. Unfortunately the days of prog’s widespread commercial success were numbered, with the punk and disco movements already in full swing. Disappointed by the lack of response to the album, Locanda Delle Fate disbanded shortly afterwards; their partial reunion in 1999 for the pop-oriented Homo Homini Lupus was also short-lived.

In spite of being plagued by bad timing, in later years Locanda Delle Fate and their 1977 album have become a cult object of sorts for fans of classic Seventies prog, especially those more oriented towards a lush, romantic sound steeped in the Italian tradition as well as in the symphonic stylings of early Genesis. Indeed, they have often been tagged as the Italian answer to Genesis, and those who prefer the edgier side of the Italian prog scene tend to dismiss them as overly sweet and melodic. However, it cannot be denied that Locanda Delle Fate are more than just a bunch of Genesis wannabes: besides their obvious talent as musicians and composers, they can also boast of the magnificent vocals of Leonardo Sasso (who did not participate in the 1999 reunion).

Германская краут-роковая группа конца 70-х. Команда была образована в Марбурге (земляки Pell Mell!). Выпустили пару альбомов - "The Colours of a Rainbow" (1978) и "Eiskalt" (1981). В состав группы входили Gerhard Eismann (ведущая гитара), Werner Eismann (вокал, бас-гитара), Robert L. Langstroff (гитара, вокал), Gerald Schwarz (гитара), Eleonore Wittekindt (клавишные), Peter Bellendir (ударные) и Michael Walter (ударные). В конце 70-х они играли, явно черпая вдохновение в психоделических 60-х. К сожалению, я о группе больше ничего не знаю, более подробной информации пока не нашёл. Свой роскошный германский справочник подарил другу, а он укатил на другой континент.

Jimmy Page "Lucifer Rising and Other Sound Tracks" (2012)

In 1972, Kenneth Anger commissioned Jimmy Page to score the soundtrack to the film Lucifer Rising. Page ultimately recorded a 24 minute composition, but it was not used. Page and Anger had a falling out, and when the film was finally released in 1980, it featured the music of Bobby Beausoleil.

   Anger began filming around 1966, hiring a young musician named Bobby Beausoleil to act and compose the soundtrack. The film was abandoned in 1967 because Anger claimed the film footage had been stolen by Beausoleil. (Beausoleil and others said that Anger had simply spent all the money for the film.)

   Anger then used some of the existing footage in another short film, "Invocation of My Demon Brother". Beausoleil was convicted of killing Gary Hinman under the orders of Charles Manson in 1970.

   Anger began filming again several years later, with British singer Marianne Faithfull appearing in the film. Chris Jagger, brother of Mick Jagger, had a falling out with Anger during the filming and most of his parts were excised from the final product. Beausoleil wrote and recorded the music in prison.

Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page, who composed a soundtrack for the film d Page holds an Egyptian stele while gazing at a portrait of occultist Aleister Crowley. Crowley associate Gerald Yorke is credited as "Thelemic consultant." The original Page's soundtrack was released in 2012 as Lucifer Rising and Other Sound Tracks.(Wikipedia)

The Flower Kings are back with a new album called "Banks of Eden" and it's the result of work in progress since December 2011. The updated version of the band showcases the classic lineup of Stolt, Bodin, Reingold and Froberg with the addition of new German prodigy powerhouse drummer Felix Lehrmann.

The new album "Banks Of Eden" was recorded with the band playing live in one room in Varispeed studio in January 2012, a recording much like in the old days of classic prog, before computers hit the market and this time with plenty of original 60's and 70's recording equipment, for a true warm analogue vintage sound. "We aimed for the classic big warm vinyl-sound of old records by Queen, Genesis, Zeppelin or Deep Purple," says Stolt.

Лейф Сандин (Leif Sundin), один из наиболее талантливых шведских певцов, авторов песен и музыкантов, выпустил свой первый сольный альбом, укрывшись за довольно незатейливым названием "House Of Leaf". Как известно, ещё будучи 19-летним юношей, Сандин стал ведущим вокалистом шведской группы Great King Rat. Через пять лет он был приглашён выступать в составе Michael Schenker Group, где к нему пришла мировая слава. После ухода из MSG Сандин пел в группе John Norum Band, с музыкантами которой до сих пор сохраняет тёплые дружеские отношения. Незадолго до выхода дебютника Лейф принял участие в записи сольного альбома Брайана Робертсона (Brian Robertson, ex-Thin Lizzy). Кроме того, он написал песни и поучаствовал в подпевках для проектов Энди Маккоя, Talisman, Pandora и многих других. Наконец, у него дошли руки и до собственного диска.
