The group formed in Kentucky (USA) in 1963 as The Exile - they became Exile in 1973. In 1978, they reached US number one with 'Kiss You All Over', followed by two more pop-chart singles before switching to country in 1983. At the time, the group featured J. P. Pennington (vocals/guitar), Buzz Cornelison (keyboards), Les Taylor (vocals/guitar), Marlon Hargis (vocals/keyboards), Sonny LeMaire (vocals/bass) and drummer Steve Goetzman. Their country career was more lucrative with their first country chart single, 'High Cost Of Leaving', reaching number 27; it was followed by four successive number Is in 1984, including 'Woke Up In Love' and 'Crazy For Your Love', and six further number Is by 1987.
Hargis was replaced by Lee Carroll in 1985 and Pennington was replaced by Paul Martin in 1989. The group signed to Arista in 1989 with a noticeable decline in its level of commercial success. They were dropped by the label in 1993 and broke up soon afterwards.
My favourite albums of Exile:
1. “Mixed Emotions” 1978 (good made album in pure melodic style).
2. “All There Is” 1979 (maybe one of the best disco-albums in the world).
