Очередной студийный симфопроговый альбом (на двух дисках!) выпустил в сотрудничестве с Эндрью Скитом наш старый знакомый по Genesis, уважаемый маэстро Энтони Филлипс. Насколько нам известно, у Энтони вообще не бывает плохих альбомов, поэтому релиз интересен хотя бы для однократного прослушивания.
When many think of the music of Anthony Phillips, often they first remember his association with the early days of the band Genesis, even though it has been more than forty years since he left that band. After formal music training in the early 1970s, Ant did continue to collaborate with Mike Rutherford on The Geese and the Ghost and Smallcreep’s Day, in addition to Ant’s other solo works such as Wise After The Event and Sides in the mid to late 1970s. Ant has released about thirty albums to the general public, in addition to the many compilations of his extensive catalog.
The younger Andrew Skeet has worked as an arranger and orchestrator for George Michael, Suede, Unkle, Sinead O’Connor and Hybrid. Since 2004 Skeet has worked with Neil Hannon of The Divine Comedy on three albums as musical director, arranger, and playing piano as well as touring throughout Europe. Andrew Skeet also established the music production company Roxbury Music with Luke Gordon (former Howie B collaborator) and together their music has been featured in film, television and commercials: The Apprentice, Dispatches, and Banged Up Abroad. Skeet has also orchestrated and conducted scores for The Awakening and Upstairs Downstairs. The album The Greatest Video Game Music was produced in 2011 by Andrew Skeet along with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and has been one of the most successful classical releases in many years.

Anthony Phillips has been toiling in his little corner of the progressive rock world since 1969 when Genesis made their first record. That's a long time to be plying one's trade. Phillips has made a great many solo records since his departure from Genesis after the Trespass album in 1970 and while many of his solo albums have hinted at the kind of sweeping orchestrations found on much of Seventh Heaven nothing has come close to what he and Andrew Skeet pull of here. Albums like 1984, Slow Dance and Tarka, among others, were recordings that would've sounded great using an orchestra, Seventh Heaven is one of the most breathtaking recordings Phillips has been involved in.
Phillips has always been known for his excellence at acoustic guitar and keyboards and there is no shortage of his guitar work here and it is quite good, as one would expect, it is the symphonic material that really elevates the recording.
He has done so much consistantly excellent work over his career it's hard to express how tremendous this particular project is. While obviously sounding like an Anthony Phillips record in many ways, it is unique in his catalog as well. It continues to amaze me that Phillips remains an obscure artist with the exception of progressive rock fans in general and avid Genesis fans in particular, who, quite rightly, fawn over his work.
Seventh Heaven doesn't "rock" out nor are there any amazing 12 string guitar solo pieces but the compositions are, possibly, some of the best of Phillips' career. Not only will this appeal to Phillips' devoted fans but should also appeal to any who likes modern orchstra music.
In 2008 Ant was commissioned by UPPM to write a set of film-orientated pieces for full orchestra and was subsequently introduced to composer and arranger Andrew Skeet, who created some outstanding arrangements for the pieces. The orchestral tracks were recorded by the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir in their home city in December 2008, with additional tracks being recorded at Rak Studios in London and at Ant's own studio.
Having enjoyed their work together, Ant and Andrew teamed up again to work on some more material the following year. For this second phase they co-wrote some new pieces and also worked on adding string arrangements to some of Ant's compositions which had first been heard in acoustic form on his solo album Field Day. The pieces were recorded at Angel Studios in London in October 2009, with Andrew conducting a string orchestra of leading session players.
A further recording session with a full 70 piece orchestra at the world famous Abbey Road studios in London took place in November 2011 where some of the pieces first recorded during the sessions in Prague were re-recorded. Seventh Heaven draws on material from all three phases of recording to create an outstanding collection.
Featured soloists on the album include singers Lucy Crowe and Belinda Sykes, guitarist John Parricelli, cellist Chris Worsey, percussionist Paul Clarvis and sax & woodwind player Martin Robertson, who has contributed to a number of Ant's previous album releases.
