Нам стало известно, что Van Halen подписали контракт с лейблом "Interscope Records" и готовят очередной альбом. В качестве вокалиста приглашён наш старый знакомый, былой фронтмен команды Дэвид Ли Рот (впервые с 1984 года). Дэвид покинул Van Halen ещё в 1985-м, его сменили сначала Сэмми Хагар, а потом ненадолго — Гэри Чероун. В 2006 г. Дэвид как буд-то вновь вошёл с состав Van Halen, но группа за всё это время так и не разродилась новым альбомом. Теперь жеесть и контракт и на конец месяца намечен анонс нового альбома.
Volatile chemistry: Van Halen making new music
In Van Halen the musical super power was always Eddie, but it was Roth who had the master plan. As well as being the lyricist, he guided the band’s image and set the tone of its persona. Van Halen’s wit, irreverence and celebration of hedonism was by the design of showbiz whiz Roth. An aggressive, larger-than-life personality, Roth often bent the band to his vision, leaving Eddie feeling frustrated and even bullied. That struggle eventually tore them apart. Of course, the solo road was not kind to Roth, ultimately, while Van Halen went on to be a top 40 hit machine with frontman Sammy Hagar, even if they did lose that clever charm that once made them so unique. These days, good sense would dictate that Roth’s back in the fold as a humbled figure, but I suspect the personality that is Diamond Dave knows no humility. And that’s probably a good thing, because a neutered Roth would be no fun at all.
